Big Dent, No Paint: How We Fix Deep Creases
A sharp crease on a body line looks like a body shop job. Here's how we pull dents this size without touching the paint.
Most people see a dent like the one in the photo and assume the panel is headed for filler, primer and a repaint. It usually isn't.
WHAT MAKES A DENT "BIG"
Size matters less than shape. A wide, shallow dent the size of a dinner plate is often easier to work than a short, sharp crease. What we actually look at is three things:
- Depth of the crease and how tight the bend is
- Whether the dent crosses a body line or a panel edge
- Whether the paint is still intact, with no cracking or flaking
The dent in this photo is a long crease running through a flat section of the panel. The metal is stretched, but the paint held. That's a paintless repair.
HOW THE REPAIR WORKS
We work the metal back from behind the panel. That means removing an interior trim piece, a liner or a light assembly to reach the back side, then using specialty rods to push the low spots up in small, controlled steps. On panels with no access from behind, we glue tabs to the surface and pull from the outside instead.
Either way, the crease comes out in stages. High spots get knocked down, low spots get lifted, and we keep reading the reflection under a line board until the panel reads straight again.
WHY IT BEATS A CONVENTIONAL REPAIR
- Your factory paint stays on the car, so there's no color match to worry about
- No filler, which means nothing to crack or shrink two years from now
- Days faster, and often a fraction of the cost
- Your vehicle history stays clean
WHEN PAINTLESS ISN'T THE ANSWER
We'll tell you straight if it isn't a fit. Cracked or chipped paint, metal stretched past what it can recover, or damage on a panel edge with no access behind it all point toward conventional bodywork. Sending you into a repair that won't hold isn't worth it to us.
NOT SURE WHICH ONE YOU HAVE?
Send us a photo. Take it at an angle with light reflecting across the panel, the same way the picture above was shot, so the shape of the dent shows up. We'll tell you what it needs and what it costs before you bring the vehicle in.
